How plants help your home and your health

Having plants in your home is one of the easiest ways to improve your quality of life. Plants can improve indoor air quality, boost your mood, and reduce stress—and that’s just for starters! Here are all the benefits that come from bringing greenery into your home:

Plants purify air

Did you know that plants remove toxins from the air in your home? Plants have been shown to remove formaldehyde and benzene from the air. They also help remove other toxins like carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide and particulate matter (tiny pieces of dust or dirt).

Plants can help purify the air in your home by removing carbon dioxide as they grow. It’s important to remember that fresh cut flowers don’t cleanse indoor air because they only last a few days before they wilt. If you want to keep your house smelling great without adding harmful toxins back into it, stick with live plants that can filter out pollutants on their own!

Plants remove toxins from the air

Plants can remove toxins from the air. They do this by acting as a sponge, absorbing gases and chemicals that are harmful to human health. The process works in two ways:

  • Oxygen is released into your home when plants breathe it in.
  • Plants absorb carbon dioxide, which is also produced by humans and animals when they breathe.

Plants reduce stress

Plants can help reduce stress and anxiety, and also improve your mood. They can also help you sleep better, and even prevent depression.

Plants have been shown to have positive effects on the nervous system by regulating our autonomic nervous system (ANS). This can reduce physical symptoms such as headaches, muscle tension and insomnia. The ANS regulates heart rate and blood pressure; it controls digestion, respiration, perspiration and salivation; it controls body temperature through sweating or shivering depending on whether you want to cool down or warm up—and it’s responsible for much more!

Plants boost your mood

If you’re looking for a way to calm your nerves or relax, plants can help. People who have plants in their offices report feeling calmer, more energized and less stressed than those without them.

When we think of the health benefits of plants in our homes, many of us think about the air quality they provide by filtering indoor air pollutants such as mold spores and dust particles. But plants also help improve your mood by providing a natural source of beauty that makes you feel better when you’re around them.

Plants are one of the easiest ways to add some greenery into an otherwise drab room—and they don’t just look pretty! They can help improve focus while studying or working; lower blood pressure; reduce stress levels; aid in digestion; keep pollen allergies at bay (if you live with someone with allergies); boost energy levels during flu season; increase productivity at work; reduce fatigue from long days on the computer; make working out feel easier after eating lunch at home rather than eating out somewhere else nearby where there’s no scenery except for buildings outside their windows (you know what I’m talking about…).

Plants in the home do a lot of good things

Plants in the home do a lot of good things. They purify the air, remove toxins from the air and reduce stress. They also boost your mood!

Plants release oxygen at night while you sleep (and some even during the day while you’re out). While they can’t clean out all toxins in indoor air pollution—there are still lingering traces of dust particles and chemicals floating around—plants do help scrub away some pollutants like formaldehyde that we breathe in every day through our skin or on our clothes or when we touch something made with synthetic materials like plastic furniture or vinyl flooring (which is why it’s important to remove shoes before entering a house!).

We’ve only scratched the surface of all the benefits that plants can have in your home. There are more studies being done every day on how plants can improve our health, and we look forward to seeing what future research brings us.
